1. Respect
- Respect everyone in hockey, including other coaches, players, officials and opponents.
- Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every coach, player and official regardless of their ability, gender, culture, ethnic origin, religion or economic status.
2. Integrity
- Always act in an honest and ethical manner.
- Model the same values and standards I expect from coaches, players and official.
- Act within the rules of hockey and in the spirit of fair play, while encouraging coaches, players & officials to do the same.
- Do not disclose any confidential information relating to coaches, players & officials without their written prior consent.
3. Positive Role Model
- Act in a way that projects a positive image of playing, coaching, officiating and the game of hockey.
- All coaches, players & officials are deserving of equal attention and opportunities.
- Be fair, considerate and honest with coaches, players & officials.
- Encourage and promote a healthy lifestyle choices and responsible behaviour.
4. Professionalism
- Be competent and knowledgeable as a coach & official, continually seek to improve your skills and knowledge.
- Display high standards of professionalism in all aspects of your work including your language, manner, punctuality, preparation and presentation.
- Be prepared to accept feedback from others, including your coaches, players, officials and accept responsibility for your actions.
- Be professional in your interaction with other coaches, players, officials and administrators.
5. Safety and Safeguarding
- Ensure that the training and/or competition environment is safe and secure.
- Create an environment that is free from all forms of harm, harassment or abuse.
- Refrain from and prevent any form of physical, emotional, sexual abuse or bullying towards coaches, players & officials, including cyber bullying.
- Proactively encourage coaches, players & officials not to harm each other as described above.
- Advise coaches, players & officials of the process to follow should they experience any form of harm.
- Show concern and caution towards ill and injured players. Do not allow players who are even slightly ill or injured to train and/or compete.
- Provide a modified training programme to accommodate the ability of all players where appropriate.
6. Fairness
- Ensure that all coaches, players & officials are treated equally, with respect for their individual differences and needs.
- Provide equal opportunities for all coaches, players & officials to participate.
- Ensure fairness in team selections, exercising no forms of favouritism and nepotism.
- Ensure that all players understand your selection criteria.
- Ensuring that talent and ability are the main criteria for selection and advancement.
7. Holistic Development
- Coaches must be committed to the holistic development of their athletes, both as individuals and as members of a team.
- Work to create an open and positive environment that encourages learning and growth, both on and off the pitch.
- Create opportunities and support coaches, players & officials to discover their talents, set and achieve goals, both on and off the field.
- Create an environment of mutual support and cooperation.
8. Confidentiality
- Respect the privacy of coaches, players & officials.
- Keep all personal information and medical records confidential.
- Only share information about coaches, players & officials those who have a legitimate need to know, such as medical professionals, social workers and parents/guardians.
9. Accountability
- Be accountable for your actions and decisions.
- Be willing to accept responsibility for any mistakes or errors.
- Be open to feedback and be willing to learn from your mistakes.
- Be prepared to address any concerns or complaints against you in a timely and appropriate manner.
- Work collaboratively with others to find solutions and improve outcomes.
10. Fair Play
- Perform your responsibilities as a coach, player & official with respect to the rules of hockey and the constitution of your organisation and within the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship.
- Show respect to coaches, players, officials, opponents, accepting victory and defeat with grace.
- Treat coaches, players, officials and opponents with fairness, honesty and integrity, avoid all forms of cheating and unsportsmanlike behaviour.
- Promote respect, dignity, and mutual understanding among coaches, players, officials, and spectators.
